Why Art?

Hello Divergents!

We make art because it breeds connection - connection to ourselves first and then to others.

We can't fully be with others until we're with ourselves.

Art, in all its many modalities - is an essential path for us to know ourselves.

Art is discovery.

Art is healing.

You'll keep hearing artists say: "if my work impacts one person positively - it's worth it."

You've felt the power of connection when you walked into a well-curated home, when you heard that song that mysteriously and suddenly brought you to tears, when you watched the film that reignited your passion for life, when you danced that dance that let you know how very alive you are, when you ate that meal that was effusively and deliciously imbued with love and care, when you read that poem that took your breath away. And all the other ways too.

Art is dancing with mystery.

Art reveals.

I hope you make space for art all over your life.

And yes, your life iself is a creative act. (Shoutout to the last post about anxiety vs excitement). What kind of future are you creating? What kind of future do you want to create?

You and God/the Universe/Source are the authors of your life. 

Yep, things happen to you that have nothing to do with you. It rains on your parade, somebody takes advantage of you, someone neglects you, someone ridicules you.

But these events don't have the final say. We have influence in how we respond to them. There is ALWAYS opportunity for beauty.

Art brings out our goodness.

These are all things that indicate I must honor art with my life going forward. It must be an essential part of what I do: my home, my car, my clothes, my hair, my food, my friends, my words, my way of moving and being in the world, how I hold my spine, my limbs, my face.

Connection. 

It's all about connection - connection to ourselves and others.
